The three years since West Kootenay Plants (WKP) started their first greenhouse have been productive for the growing company. As a wholesale nursery specializing in native plants for restoration and agro-forestry their progressive customer base includes organizations doing ecosystem rehabilitation and mitigation projects, landscapers and developers. Local seed is exclusively used for the finished container grown plants. West Kootenay Plants’ infrastructure has also been improved. New roads, an additional greenhouse and a new well on WKP’s 50+acre property allow for a tripling of growing capacity and greater efficiencies in production in 2008 and in the future. West Kootenay Plants is committed to supporting their customers with native container-grown plants that enhance the environment while creating sustainable and meaningful local employment and economy.

All propagation material used at WKP is collected in accordance with the ethical harvesting and use guidelines set out in Plant Collection Guidelines for Horticultural Use of Native Plants (published by the Alberta Native Plant Council). WKP is a member of the BC Landscape & Nursery Association (BCLNA). |
